The One Who Changed Everything

babyAt the Christmas Eve Service, I shared this song I wrote a few weeks ago. It expresses my real heart about all this day means. I share the lyrics with you as a reminder.

The One Who Changed Everything
Michael Thompson

Mary said she would call him
Emmanuel, God among us
She said he would save us from all of our sins.

She said that this Baby,
would be God fully shown to us
But how in this world could a baby be King?

Here…in the manger…lies hope for the broken
Here…in the stable…lies peace in the storm
Here…wrapped in strips of cloth…lies the depths of the heart of God
Here…in her arms…lies the One…who would change everything.

Jesus said he would walk with men
And love them just as they had been.
He said he had come to set prisoners free.

He said that the broken hearts
Would find joy in the face of God.
But how could a carpenter change anything?

There…as a carpenter…stood hope for the broken
There…at that table…sat peace in the storm
There…on the dusty roads…walked the depths of the heart of God
There…on the cross…hung the One…who changed everything.

When you feel that you’re far from God,
And your heart cannot hear his voice
Remember Jesus came that night to freely forgive.

And He’s not in that manger now
Weak and wrapped in the flesh somehow,
No…now in this world Jesus reigns as the King!

Now…at the throne of God…stands hope when you’re broken
Now…wrapped in power…stands peace in your storm!
Now…clothed in majesty…stands the God who can set you free.
Now…in his arms…is the Love …that will change everything.
